Mission Statement
The goal of Ells River Black Bear Outfitting is to create memories that will last a lifetime by providing a top quality hunting experience, comfortable accommodations, excellent food and the chance to meet and make new friends.
Ells River Black Bear Outfitting specializes in archery hunts along with muzzle loader and rifle hunts.
Our black bear hunting allocations are located northwest of Fort McMurry, Alberta and encompass an area of approximately 677 sq. miles (1753 sq. km) of which less than 25% is currently being hunted. The area has been very lightly hunted as black bear hunting has only been occurring in this area for the last four years.
Alberta allows the baiting of bears and has a two bear limit. Hunting takes place from large comfortable permanent stands and from smaller portable stands. Ground blind hunters can also be accommodated. In 2008, we will be expanding our existing bait sites into areas never hunted before and increasing our existing bait stations from fifteen to between twenty and twenty five sites. We also will be extending our season and reducing the number of hunters per week to four. This will increase the potential to see that trophy bear and to take two bears by having more bait sites to hunt from per hunter. Hunts are two hunters per guide and hunting will start mid-afternoon and go until dusk. The new season will run from May 11th 2009 to June 7th 2009. References are available upon request.
The majority of the bears taken in the area are black and black with a white V on the chest. Color phase bears are more common in some areas than others and make up approximately 25 – 30% of bears sighted. Color phase bears include, blonde, cinnamon, brown, and red.
The base and spike camps both consist of large comfortable heated portable cabins with beds and outside showers. Meals are home cooked with a varied menu and are down right good.
In addition to hunting, photography opportunities abound; from still photography to videos of that special father son hunt and unique still/video opportunities of bears in their natural habitat.
