Hunts

Bear Hunt 2008Ells River Black Bear Outfitting specializes in bear hunting and only bear hunting. Due to the remoteness and lack of local hunting pressure and a carefully managed harvest many bears in my area live to the age needed to produce Pope and Young and Boone and Crockett class trophies and weigh between 400 and 500 lbs.

Ells River Black Bear Outfitting limits the number of clients to 16 per season and will only take four hunters per hunt allowing a hunter to have access to more baits with minimal hunting pressure, resulting in a great opportunity for that trophy bear. Our remote hunting camps are accessible by ATV only. Hunting is alternated between the 2 camps thus limiting hunting pressure on one area.

The 2009 spring season was extremely successful with 14 clients taking 22 bears including a big color bear squaring 61/2 ft. Our largest bear of the season squared over 7ft with a rough green score over 20" and 5 bears over 400lbs. Everybody had 100% opportunity on a first bear and about 90% on the second bear.

In the past two years 24 clients have taken 39 bears with 17 being over 300lb and 10 over 400lbs and greater than 6'square, and 4, 7' plus on the square, with everybody having 100% opportunity on their first bear and approximately 80% on the second bear. Six clients over the past two years have doubled out in the same evening.
